BARNSBY'S SADDLERY HERITAGE

More than 200 years ago, when George Cliff started his apprenticeship in the saddlery trade, Walsall was the centre of English saddle-making. George's son, Jabez followed his father into the trade. Now Barnsby Saddles is run by the seventh generation of the family.

Through the years, Barnsby has been blessed with a loyal and highly skilled workforce: many of the current staff have been with the company all their working lives. It’s rare to find a company with such a concentration of skill, craftsmanship and experience as Barnsby Saddles

BARNSBY SADDLES - Beebee & Beebee saddle tree

At the heart of the Barnsby saddle is the Beebee & Beebee saddle tree, manufactured from beechwood laminate veneers for strength, and moulded under a vacuum laminate press. The more open arch gives good clearance on the horse’s withers, while the points are designed so as not to impede the horse’s shoulder movements. The angle of the side bars allows for a narrower twist, enabling the rider to achieve a closer leg position near the horse. The bars are also anatomically constructed to follow the contours of the horse along its back.

BARNSBY SADDLES - Quality Materials

The highest quality materials go into making Barnsby saddles – fine grade leather, pure wool flock and precision cut high grade foams. Even with modern machinery, such as leather cutting presses and state-of-the-art sewing machines, some saddles can take up to four days to make.

BARNSBY SADDLES - Craftsmanship

Barnsby employs Walsall's finest craftsmen. Their skills reflect generations of saddlery experience. Each product is a labour of love as Barnsby saddle makers take great pride in both their work and in the company.

BARNSBY LEATHER GOODS

Apart from saddles and bridles, Barnsby’s also make sports products such as cricket and other hard and soft balls, footballs and golf bags, as well as hold-alls, travel goods and leather cases.

In addition, they make equestrian equipment for the military, and have made bren gun pouches, ammunition belts, webbing and other leather goods for military use. The company also manufactures the saddles for the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery, and the Household Cavalry.
